The Nissin Royal Stage (7:3 action) is our recommended rod for those customers who are looking for a Tenkara rod to complement their Keiryu rod. The Royal Stage will load and cast a our furled line and PVC line beautifully along with 3.5 level lines. It also has enough backbone to throw nymphs and get positive strikes at modest depths. The Royal Stage has a Tenkara rating of 7:3, which in our testing translated into an RFI value of 4.7 with a CCS rating of 17 pennies. In short, it an easy casting light medium action rod that is capable of catching fish well into the teens.
The handle on Royal Stage is cork and its shape has a concave profile to it. This is typical in Tenkara rods, but we found the concave profile of the Royal Stage to be slightly more pronounced. After fishing it many hours one afternoon, we came to greatly appreciate the subtleties of this grip. It’s a design that instinctively promotes a light grip and facilitates an oily smooth wrist action. All this of course, leads to a delicate cast that drops your fly softly onto the water.
In conclusion, the Royal Stage is one of the finest and best value Tenkara rods coming out of Japan. It’s popular in Japan for a good reason, and has been a mainstay of Nissin’s lineup, making parts availability very reliable.

An excellent medium action Tenkara rod, that offers excellent casting, sensitivity, and balance. The 7:3 action offers well rounded performance for nymphing, kebari, and dry fly applications.
CASTING GUIDE:
This is a Tenkara rod and the a traditional Tenkara cast is recommend. Cast it lightly, taking the rod back to the 12 o’clock position, holding the rod with your index finger pointed forward and using your wrist. The Bow Cast works well in situations where it is required.
