Habitat

  • Slow to moderately fast water.

  • Lakes & Ponds.

Technique

  • Drift it naturally.

  • No movement.

  • Keep an eye out for floating Dun (sailboat wing) or Spinner on water.

  • Try to match size and color.

Hatch

  • Spring - SUMMER – Fall

  • Year-Round: Nymphs

During a hatch, drift Emergers, Duns and Spinners, taking note of fish behavior to see if they are taking the Dry or Emergers.

Mayfly Stages & Fly Suggestions

Mayfly Nymph

  • Nymphs live in water for 1 Year. They can be swimmers, crawlers, clingers or burrows.

Mayfly Emerger

Nymphs “emerge” the day they hatch.

Mayfly Adult Fly

Emerge as Dun with upright “sailboat” wings. After 24 hrs., they morph into Spinners lay their eggs and die on the water.
